Volunteer Opportunities

Join a vibrant community that thrives on camaraderie and shared cultural heritage. The Sri Lanka America Association of Southern California (SLAASC) is dedicated to fostering fellowship and cultural enrichment among the Sri Lankan Community in Southern California.

Each year, we embark on a variety of exciting events, brought to life by the passion and commitment of our volunteers. We determine the dates for our annual activities at the first Committee Meeting of the fiscal year. Here are some of the major events that you can be a part of:

  • Vesak Bhakthi Gee and Lantern Lighting Ceremony: Illuminate our community with this beautiful Buddhist tradition.
  • Hopper Night Fundraiser: Bring people together with good food for a good cause.
  • Sri Lanka Day Expo and Parade: Represent our community on a float in a vibrant, public display of our culture.
  • Christmas Party: Spread joy and goodwill in our community during the holiday season.
  • Sri Lanka Independence Day Celebration: Honor our roots and shared history with pride and festivity.
  • Sri Lanka Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebration: Join us in welcoming the New Year with traditional customs and celebrations.

In addition to our events, SLAASC has a longstanding tradition of supporting our community in times of need. We offer a $500.00 donation for funeral services to Sri Lankan community members living in Southern California.

To support these events and initiatives, we undertake various fundraising activities. As a volunteer, you can engage with fundraising in different ways such as mail, phone, email solicitations, accepting donations on our website, personal appeals, government grant solicitations, and membership drives.

All donations are managed responsibly and transparently. Our Treasurer oversees all deposits into the Organization’s bank account and reports all receipts to the Committee. Every payment related to our projects is made with Committee approval, ensuring accountability. After each project’s conclusion, the Treasurer submits a Statement of Account to the Committee. This statement is shared with all our life members and published on our website.

Join us today and make a significant impact on the cultural landscape of Southern California. Your involvement in SLAASC will not only enrich your personal journey but will also contribute to the growth and prosperity of the Sri Lankan community
